Incisors are found at the front of the horses mouth. They are the teeth the horse uses to tear and pick up forage.
Why is incisor work important?
As part of the process of taking care of our domestic horses' teeth, the length and shape of the incisors must be correct. Incisor reduction only works if the molor work has been done completely and properly first. This is checked by making sure the length of the incisors are in correct proportion to the height of the molar tables. If the incisors are too long they keep the molars out of occlusion. Occlusion is the surface to surface contact between opposing teeth. If the molars are too long in relation to the incisors, the incisors will not come together completely, therefore lacking occlusion.

Here are some pictures of a recent horse I have done. This mare had been kicked several years ago. Because of that injury she started having a hard time eating and started to loose quite a bit of weight.

This is a picture taken after incisor work was done.
