What are bitseats?

Bitseats are the re-shaping of both the upper and lower first cheek teeth (first premolars also known as the numbers 6's.) Think of it as if you turned a boat upside down, every line on that boat is smooth and flows toward the back of the boat. This is similar to a bitseat. When your horse has a bit in place the tongue and cheeks move around as pressure is applied to the reins. The smooth curved surface of a bitseat reduces the possibility of discomfort when the soft tissue is pressed against the teeth. Bitseats also allow the horse to load food more efficiently and get a faster grind on the food ultimately helping to utilize more of it.

The picture below shows a typical horse without bitseats. Notice the sharp points, blunt edges, and even the presence of wolf teeth.

Now look at the same horse after removing the wolf teeth and setting in bitseats. If you look closely you can see the far side that has not been done. Notice the extreme difference.
